Fourth Edition of Classic Winds International Competition Concluded in Dubai

The fourth edition of the ‘Classic Winds’ International Competition concluded in Dubai from February 14 to March 1, 2023. Organised by SAMIT Event Group with the support of CMDI Group, the event celebrated the artistry of wind instrument players in an extraordinary showcase of talent.

Spanning 16 days, the competition was divided into four categories: flute, oboe, clarinet, and saxophone. Musicians in each category demonstrated their technical prowess across four challenging rounds, performing works from the Baroque era to contemporary compositions, including pieces by Composer-in-Residence Alexey Shor.

A distinguished jury board, representing the pinnacle of international wind music, evaluated the participants. The jury was chaired by renowned oboist, conductor, and professor Hansjörg Schellenberger (Germany) and included esteemed figures such as clarinettists Sergey Eletskiy (Russia), Johann Hindler (Austria), and Antonio Tinelli (Italy); saxophonists Nicolas Arsenijevic (France), Yo Matsushita (Japan), and Nikita Zimin (Russia); flautists Maxim Rubtsov (Russia), Diane Boyd Schultz (USA), and Raffaele Trevisani (Italy); and oboist Emil Miroslavsky (Russia).

Participants competed for a total prize fund of €75,000, awarded to the top three musicians in each category, alongside various special awards and recognitions.
