About the Competition
The fifth edition of the Classic Winds International Competition returns in 2027, reaffirming its position as one of the foremost global platforms for wind musicians of our time. Taking place from the 26th of April to the 5th of May in the illustrious Austrian city of Vienna, this landmark edition situates the competition at the very heart of Europe’s musical heritage, marking a fitting backdrop for an event dedicated to no fewer than three storied wind instruments.

Hosted at the MuTh, one of Vienna’s most modern concert halls, Classic Winds 2027 will be building on the remarkable success of its previous editions, bringing together exceptional young artists from around the world to compete at the highest level. This year’s competition will feature three principal categories, namely saxophone, clarinet, and flute, each offering substantial prizes and the opportunity to perform before an eminent international jury of distinguished performers and pedagogues, while also giving contestants the chance to take to the stage alongside a professional orchestra, with the Győr Philharmonic Orchestra accompanying the participants in the Final Round.

Moreover, with a total prize fund of €120,000, including a prestigious Grand Prix award of €10,000, and an Audience Choice Award of €5,000, this competition is one that not only recognises excellence but actively supports the artistic development of its participants.
Committed to nurturing the next generation of performers, Classic Winds continues to serve as a vital launching pad for international careers. As it returns to Europe for this highly anticipated edition, the competition once again invites the world’s finest young wind players to take part in an inspiring musical journey, bridging heritage and future, and helping to define the evolving voice of classical performance.
